Buying clothing from Pakistan for the UK: a practical guide
Importing clothing into the UK from Sialkot is routine once you know the five things below: duty, VAT, labelling, sizing and timing. Check current rules on gov.uk or with your customs broker, because tariffs and regulations change.
Import duty and origin
Duty depends on the commodity code of each garment and the country where it is made. Pakistan is covered by the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme, so look up the current rate for your code on the UK Trade Tariff before you set a landed cost. Rules of origin apply, and your broker can confirm how they affect your order.
EORI number and import VAT
The importer of record needs a GB EORI number. VAT is charged on imported goods, and some children’s clothing is zero-rated, so confirm the treatment for each product with your broker or accountant.
FOB or DDP
On FOB terms we deliver to the port and you or your forwarder handle freight, duty and delivery. On DDP terms we arrange delivery to your address, and how duty and import VAT are handled is confirmed with your quote. Compare both against your own forwarder’s price.
UK labelling
Garments sold in the UK need a fibre composition label in English under the textile labelling rules. A care label is customary, and any “Made in” claim must be true. Children’s clothing has extra safety rules, for example on drawcords and nightwear flammability, so tell us at the start if your range includes kidswear.
Sizing and fit
Send a size chart with measurements and the sizes you sell, such as UK 8 to 18 or XS to XXL. We grade to your chart and check the sample against it before bulk.
Timing a drop date
